Beginner Guide

Start Sandustry with a stable first Gold line, use the Minimap, choose safe research priorities, and diagnose early Shaker or Kinetic Press problems.

Direct answer

Begin by learning the Minimap, stabilizing one simple Gold chain, and researching only what removes the next bottleneck. Keep inputs and outputs visible, leave room around machines, and treat exploration as a way to find Artifacts and Augments after the first production loop works.

Field note

Set a first-hour objective

Your first useful milestone is not a large factory. It is one production loop you can observe from input to output. The official beginner material identifies the Shaker, Kinetic Press, and Planter Box as important early Gold-chain buildings, so learn those relationships before scaling.

Use the Minimap and objectives to keep orientation while you collect resources. Expand only after the current line runs without manual rescue; a small stable line teaches more than several unfinished branches.

Field note

Build and research in bottleneck order

Place machines so you can see where material enters, where it changes, and where each output leaves. Research should answer the next concrete constraint—transport, processing, storage, or exploration—rather than follow an unsupported universal order.

When a guide uses old names such as Burnt Slag or Spore, stop and check the current official index. The released terminology in this manual is Residue and Seed, and the press is Kinetic Press.

Field note

Diagnose the first stoppage

If output stops, inspect the chain from the last successful output backward. Check whether the destination is full, whether a mixed material entered the line, whether the machine has the correct input, and whether geometry or drop height matters.

Change one variable at a time. Clearing a blockage and immediately redesigning the whole line makes it difficult to identify which correction worked.
